Austin Ruse
President - Center for Family & Human Rights

Austin Ruse has headed the Center for Family and Human Rights (C-Fam) since shortly after its creation in the summer of 1997. Austin has held the title of President since 2000.

Austin was a founder of the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast and founding columnist at TheCatholicThing.org.

He has appeared on a number of national cable network programs discussing UN and Catholic issues, including news programs on CNN, CBS News, MSNBC, and Fox News.

Austin serves on various boards including Catholic Action for Faith and Family, Veritas Center for Ethics in Public Life at the Franciscan University of Steubenville, Trailways Publishing House, and Imago Dei.

PUBLICATIONS

Austin is the author of Fake Science: Exposing the Left’s Skewed Statistics, Fuzzy Facts, and Dodgy Data (Regnery Publishing, 2017) and the award-winning Littlest Suffering Souls: Children Whose Short Lives Point Us to Christ (Tan Books, 2017).

He is currently working in collaboration with Raymond Cardinal Burke to be published by Tan Books.

Austin has published more than 800 essay, articles and columns in numerous publication including Crisis Magazine where he is a bi-weekly columnist, The Catholic Thing where he was a founding columnist, and First Things, Washington Times, National Review Online, Weekly Standard, Human Events, Touchstone. He is a former foreign affairs commentator for EWTN’s weekly news broadcast The World Over hosted by Raymond Arroyo.

MEMBERSHIPS

Austin is a Knight in the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, a Knight in the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher and is a founding member of the Diplomatic Society of St. Gabriel.

Austin is a member of the Fellowship of Catholic Scholars, and the Society of Catholic Social Scientists. He is also a member of the Council on National Policy.

Because his ancestor served in General Washington’s army, Austin is a member of the Sons of the American Revolution.

AWARDS

In addition to receiving an honorary doctorate from the Franciscan University of Steubenville, Austin has received numerous other awards including:

  • Legatus John Cardinal O’Connor Pro-Life Hall of Fame,

  • Eagle Forum Leadership Award,

  • Students for Life of American Defender of Life Award,

  • Institute of Psychological Sciences John Paul II Award,

  • Society of Catholic Social Scientists Blessed Frederic Ozanam Award,

  • International Solidarity and Human Rights Institute “Father Paul Marx Award,”

  • SpeakOut Illinois Henry Hyde Leadership Award.

 

EDUCATION

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and a Bachelor of Journalism degree from the University of Missouri.

FAMILY

Mr. Ruse is married to the former Cathleen Cleaver, who is senior legal advisor to the Family Research Council. They have two daughters, Lucy and Gigi. They live in the state of Virginia where Mr. Ruse’s family first arrived from England in the early 1700’s.
