Sister Maria provided some amazing insights about how to discern one's path in life.  

Below are her notes and the mnemonic based on the word DISCERN that she presents:

Desire to Live your Life well;

What is your True Destiny?

Your Destination is to Be a Saint and a Disciple.

Discern these Deliberately.

I

Invoke the Holy Spirit in your Quest;

Ask for Inspiration from God and the

Intercession of the Saints.

S

Sanctify your quest and

recognize the sacredness of your life.

Seek first the Kingdom of God and

elevate it with a Sacramental Life

because there are profound gifts available to you if you do.

C

Live the Commandments - these are rules for living;

Be Convinced of God's Values, they are not trivial;

Follow the Call of the Gospel and the

Church's Teachings, since these are timeless;

Be aware that you may have to Counter the Culture of the world

in seeking your highest calling.

E

Empty Yourself (Kenosis) in order to be filled with good things, with the true self;

Establish a rule of Life which is centered on God;  

Die to Yourself in order to be Reborn.

R

Be Renewed with Real Relationships with God and others;

Be aware of Receiving the gift of Life and eternity from God;

Real Change requires Radical Renewal;

N

Once you have sought the above, you will be given the gift of Newness of Life -

Jesus said, "Behold I make all things New."
